HISTORY
Benet Academy 's tennis program began in 1973 (girls) and 1975 (boys) on three courts painted on the parking lot next to the gym (Alumni Gym). Since that time, the program has continually grown and improved into one of the top programs in the State.
Many players have competed on these courts, first in that parking lot, and then on four courts built north of Benet Hall. The first Benet individual athletic state champion in school history was a tennis player as Jane Jarosz won the IHSA State Tennis Singles Championship in 1980.
Since the tennis program was introduced in the 1970's, our girls teams have won 44 Conference Championships, and 16 Sectional/District Championships. Our boys teams have won 42 Conference Championships and 7 Sectional Championships.
More recently, our teams have reached significant levels of success & recognition at the State-wide level. Our girls teams were IHSA State Champions in 2016 and 2024 and our #1 Girls Doubles teams were IHSA State Champions in 2019, 2023 & 2024.
Our boys teams placed 2nd in State at the 2022 & 2023 IHSAState Championships and placed 3rd in State in 2017. Our #1 Boys Doubles team was IHSA State Champions in 2023.
The new St. Scholastica Athletic Campus at 2350 Maple Ave, featuring eight tennis courts, was officially opened and blessed at Benet Academy on August 26, 2015. The last practice on the old courts at the main Benet campus was on May 20, 2019.
